Everton v Arsenal Asian Handicap Preview – Saturday 19th March

Everton v Arsenal – Goodison Park at 12:45 live on BT Sport 1

It’s been a bad week for Arsenal, knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League, with now their only chance of silverware, albeit very slim, in the Premier League.

The Gunners travel to Goodison Park for a Saturday lunchtime BPL kick off having won just one match from their last 9 in all competitions, an FA Cup replay against Championship side Hull City.

A 2-1 defeat at home to Watford last Sunday along with a 5-1 aggregate loss to Barcelona in the UCL will not have helped Arsenal’s confidence as they now must focus on chasing down the 11 point gap (with a game in hand) between themselves and league leaders Leicester City.

There is no doubt that the players have felt the pressure a few times this season, with their mental weakness showing on a number of occasions. It is arguably the best chance they have had to win the Premier League since 2004, but when it’s really mattered, they have let themselves down.

Since beating a 10 man Leicester, which should have kick started their title challenge, the North London side have dropped 8 points in 3 matches, leaving themselves a mountain to climb and needing the Foxes and Spurs to come unstuck over the remaining 8 matches.

Arsenal do have the third best away record in the league, but have only picked up one win in their last 5 road trips.

They have found goals hard to come by this campaign but have netted 9 goals in their last 5 league matches, but have not kept a clean sheet in four. And it’s hard to see them keeping a clean sheet this Saturday against the third best attack in the division.

Everton have scored a massive 51 goals in 28 games, only Leicester and Tottenham (53) have scored more but have played two more matches. Despite their impressive attack, they lie 12th in the table as they continue to have difficulties in defence, conceding 39 times already this season.

The Toffee’s will be buoyed after their 2-0 FA Cup quarter final win over Chelsea last weekend but their home form is the 4th worst in the league. They have underachieved this season but are more than capable of beating any team on their day, but consistency is a real issue.

Although I don’t see Arsenal realistically standing a chance of winning the league, this is a big game for them and one they need 3 points from if they are to keep the belief. It will be tough to bounce back from a bad week but against an inconsistent Everton side who are weak at the back, with a poor home record, I make them the value bet on the Asian Handicap betting market.

I’m expecting an open match and one that should see a few goals, but one where Arsenal can show their class, which has been missing lately.
