The Driven Partenopei Midfielder

To get an idea of just how crucial Napoli’s irrepressible central midfielder, Allan, is to Maurizio Sarri’s side, look no further than the fact that he’s played in every single match for Napoli this season.

Across their Serie A, Champions League, Europa League and Coppa Italia exertions, the durable Brazilian has either started or come off the bench in all of them, seeing him play a grand total of 45 matches so far this term.

Always full of energy, intensity, and aggression, the robust midfielder’s endless stamina has been crucial to him being able to play all these matches and still keep his form at such a high level. Moreover, his dynamism has been absolutely instrumental towards his ability to undertake the vigorous pressing and counterpressing that Sarri requires from his players.

A truly complete operator, who contributes so much on both sides of the ball, it’s quite staggering he continually gets overlooked by Brazil national team coach, Tite, though. Obviously, there’s huge competition for places within this hugely talented Selecao squad, but surely he’s deserving of a chance in light of his consistently strong efforts at club level.

“I probably deserve an opportunity, I don’t think it will be for the World Cup as we know that Brazil has so much quality. If the call came I think I would be ready. I think I deserve at least the consideration,” Allan explained on the topic.

An accomplished passer, who possesses all the tools to look right at home within one of Europe’s most beautiful teams, this sees him very comfortable playing in high-pressure situations, while also being extremely competent at hitting line breaking ground passes and more expansive through balls.

Furthermore, his powerful, driving forward runs with the ball at his feet have been another huge positive for the Partenopei, something that’s given them an additional dimension going forward.

In everything he does, it’s been a real joy to observe just how determined and willing to do all he can for the benefit of his team he is, as he unquestionably sets a terrific example for his teammates to follow. While he’s still a somewhat underrated commodity, which is possibly why he’s yet to receive what would be a richly deserved Brazil call-up, there’s no doubting what an appreciated asset he is to this title-chasing Napoli.

Courtesy of his consistency and quality, the physical 27-year-old, who’s notably notched four goals and four assists this term, deservedly renewed his contract with Napoli, signing a five-year contract with his beloved club that spans until 2023.

Sitting four points behind the mighty Juventus after their disappointing loss to Fiorentina at the weekend, you can guarantee their relentless midfield warrior will still be doing all he can to secure the club’s first league title since 1989-1990. Although this goal now seems unlikely, his spirit, dedication, and mental fortitude will see him keep fighting right to the end. Giving up is never an option for Allan.
