Espanyol v Deportivo La Coruna Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 24th September

Espanyol v Deportivo La Coruna – Cornellà-El Prat at 11:00 Live at Sky Sports

Espanyol was unfortunate not to pick up a point away at Sevilla on the opening weekend of the season with their more illustrious hosts benefiting from a dubious goal. Still, the Parakeets were pleased with their performance in Andalucia, having won the shots on-target count 6-4.

However, the Catalan club subsequently suffered a shock 1-0 reverse at home to Leganes before being put in their place by near neighbors Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Fortunately, Quique Sanchez Flores’ group bounce back by overcoming Celta Vigo on home soil.

Home is where the heart is for Espanyol

A midweek trip to Villarreal will test Espanyol but a home outing against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday should see the Parakeets flourish at Estadi Cornella-El Prat, particularly in this spot. The hosts have won seven of their last eight when welcoming bottom-six opposition here.

If we extend the sample, the Barcelona-based club has claimed 13 victories from their last 20 when hosting bottom-half finishers. With last season’s most creative player, Pablo Piatti, signing permanently in the summer and their excellent home record against La Liga’s lesser lights in mind, the 2.10 available on Espanyol overcoming a -0.50 Asian Handicap hurdle has to appeal.

Deportivo’s wretched away record

Deportivo hasn’t finished higher than 15th in there three seasons since returning to Spain’s top-flight and have tended to be poor travelers. La Coruna has shipped six goals in away days at Levante and Betis already this term and their sieve-like defense leaves a lot to be desired.

The Galicians have suffered 11 defeats in 16 winless trips to teams outside of last season’s bottom-six and the visitors conceded at least three goals in five of those losses as they fired blanks in eight of 19 road trips last term.

Deportivo has steadied under the astute leadership of Pepe Mel but a nightmare start to the season has increased the pressure and spotlight on the head coach and things certainly don’t get any easier on Sunday. I’m happy to back the home win at the prices on offer.
