Odd v Bodo/Glimt
Both teams head into the contest in good spirits. Odd managed to draw 2-2 away at Molde last week which is a result that keeps them in the title race. Fagermo’s men are 7 points behind table toppers Bodo/Glimt who they now face in this Friday evening clash. It goes without saying that a defeat would all but end any gold medal hopes. To be honest, even a draw isn’t enough because a potential seven point gap to both Glimt and Molde is probably too much to overcome. So Odd are effectively in ‘must win’ territory. The bookies make them favourites around the 2.05 mark on a -0.5 Asian Handicap.
Bodo/Glimt hammered VIF 4-0 on Monday night to move back clear at the top of the Eliteserien. Molde are still sniffing behind them and of course Odd can’t be ruled out either. Glimt have a lot of really tough away matches yet to play, starting here at the Skagerak Arena on Friday night. They beat Odd 3-0 earlier in the season but this will probably be a tougher contest. Glimt have achieved remarkable things this season but whether they can keep going in the final third of the campaign is a different question entirely. My prediction is for Odd to win but I think a better bet is over 2.75 goals. Glimt matches have regularly been wild this year, every single one of their contests have contained a least 2 goals. All of the matches between the top teams this year have been high scoring and I’m expecting something similar here. There’s enough attacking talent on show to deliver an over match.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.75 goals at 2.040
Sarpsborg v Viking
What on earth has happened to Sarpsborg this season? It is astonishing that after round 19 they are bottom of the Eliteserien! Last Sunday they lost 1-2 away at relegation rivals Stromsgodset and just to add insult to injury a player they just sold to that club, Lars Salvesen scored the winner in spectacular fashion. Sarpsborg have won just twice all season which simply isn’t good enough for Geir Bakke’s men. He has done a fantastic job at the club and this time last season they were revelling in Europa League group stage qualification. The expectation was that they would challenge for a medal spot in 2019 and on paper the squad should’ve done much better. Quite what has gone wrong I’m not entirely sure but we now have to say that they are a serious relegation candidate. New players have been signed in this window but whether or not they will eventually make a difference I’m not sure.
Viking travel here on the back of a three game home stretch that has yielded them 7 points. It should’ve been even more though because they blew a 2-0 lead vs Ranheim in their previous match. That will frustrate everyone but the Stavanger outfit are a comfortable 7 points clear of the relegation places and should have enough to finish in a safe mid table spot. These two teams met just a couple of weeks ago and on that occasion Viking won 2-1. It was a deserved success and I’m not entirely sure Sarpsborg can gain revenge. They can’t be trusted so you’d have to be very brave to back them as a -0.75 favourite. The bet I like here is over 3 goals. Viking have certainly found their scoring boots of late and Sarpsborg simply don’t do clean sheets right now. They will be desperate to win and have to push for the 3 points which should lead to quite an open game of football. An overall outcome of something like a 2-2 draw could certainly be on the cards.
