Colchester v Aston Villa
With John Terry leading the side forward, Aston Villa looked to have started the season strongly in the first-half against newly-relegated Hull City. They took the lead early on after Gabriel Agbonlahor, who many had predicted to be shown the exit door by Steve Bruce in the summer, gave his side the lead.
Villa’s over-reliance on Terry showed in the second-half when Jarrod Bowen found space to volley past Sam Johnstone in the Villa goal.
League Two side Colchester failed to get off to a good start to their league campaign on Saturday when they lost 3-1 away to Accrington Stanley. They had their chances though, with 12 shots during the game, so if they can start taking their chances they may have a shot at upsetting Steve Bruce’s Villa side.
For Villa, Jack Grealish will be missing after getting injured during a pre-season clash, whilst John Terry will likely be rested. At 36, it’s hard to see Terry playing again just a few days after Saturday’s clash. Steve Bruce may hand new loanee Josh Onomah his debut at the Colchester Community Stadium as one of a number of expected changes.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Colchester 0.50 at 2.470
Leeds v Port Vale
Port Vale started their League Two campaign well, with a 3-1 away win at Crawley Town, but they will no doubt have their work cut out against a strong looking Leeds United side.
For Leeds, their 3-2 win over Bolton doesn’t quite indicate just how dominant they were in their Championship opener. Chris Wood was the man on first away at the Macron Stadium, grabbing a goal and an assist on Thomas Christiansen’s debut match in charge.
Leeds will be looking to make Elland Road a fortress once more, starting with their EFL Cup tie against Port Vale. If Christiansen keeps with Wood and two-time goal scorer on the opening day Kalvin Phillips up front, they’ll surely have too much for the League Two side.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Leeds – 1.25 at 2.090
Oldham v Burton
Burton suffered defeat at the hands of Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City on the opening day of the Championship season, but Nigel Clough will be pleased with his side’s performance. It took a wonder goal from Cardiff’s star man Kenneth Zahore to break the deadlock on the weekend, with Burton defending well against a stronger side.
For Oldham, they suffered defeat on the opening day of League One at the hands of Oxford United but will be hoping to take advantage of a Burton side lacking much quality. They squandered a great chance to level their League One opener when Tope Obadeyi shot wide, and manager John Sheridan will be hoping that they can start to put those chances away against Burton.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Oldham – 0.25 at 2.320
