Crystal Palace V Tottenham Asian Handicap Preview – Saturday 10th January

Selhurst Park – Saturday 10th January at 17:30 live on Sky Sports 1

The Premier League returns to our screens this weekend after a short interlude for the 3rd round FA Cup games but there’s been plenty of action going on in the background at Crystal Palace since their last league game.

Alan Pardew has finally taken up the reins at his old club after they dispensed with Neil Warnock’s services following their limp performance, in the 3-1 home defeat to Southampton on Boxing Day.

The Eagles hero started his tenure with a comfortable 4-0 win at Dover in the Cup and will be relishing his first game in charge back at Palaces home ground. However, they face a tough task as they welcome on form, cross city rivals Spurs to South London.

Palace have not won a Premier League game since November 23rd which is a run of eight matches and perhaps even more worryingly, they only managed to find the back of the net three times. Pardew urgent needs to address this lack of goals, if the Eagles are to have any chance of avoiding relegation this season.

Conversely up in North London, Spurs have really found their form under new boss Mauricio Pochettino and come into this Derby on the back of a hugely impressive 5-3 demolition of Prem favourites Chelsea on New Year’s Day.

The big question now is, can Spurs maintain that form for any length of time and grab one of the two Champions League places that are literally going begging at the moment. They were disappointing in the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Burnley on Monday night, but fielded a weakened team so this weekend is where the real acid test of their credentials begins.

It’s tricky to figure out how Palace will play under their new boss but playing at home in a Derby game, you would hope they will come out and attack their opponents from the first whistle. Pochettino’s side have been very good away from home so far with the only defeats coming at Chelsea and Man City.

Games between these two sides tend to be tight but with Harry Kane in such irresistible form up front for Spurs, the Lillywhites should prove to be too powerful for Crystal Palace this weekend. The advised trade is to back Tottenham Hotspur -0.25 at 1.91.
