Coritiba v Botafogo – Estádio Couto Pereira at 20:30

We have a great list of fixtures to look forward to on Saturday and we’ll be taking a look at the relegation scrap between Coritiba and Botafogo.

Just one point separates these two sides currently as Coritiba sit inside the relegation zone on 14 points and Botafogo two places above them in 15th place with 15 points.

Botafogo picked up a huge three points last weekend when they beat Santa Cruz by two goals to one. Bota dominated the game from start to finish and former Santos youngster Neilton, put in a superb performance and got himself on the score sheet in the 17th minute.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Bota as they’ve notched a respectable 16 goals in their 13 fixtures, it’s been the fact that they’ve shipped a large amount. Bota have conceded 21 goals so far this season and are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home, they’ve actually only kept one clean sheet in total in a home draw to Figueirense.

Coritiba looked almost certain to go down just a matter of weeks ago but after going on a four game unbeaten run in which they’ve only conceded one goal it’s given the club a new wave of energy as players are buzzing during games and the improvement in confidence is there for everyone to see.

During their last game away to Fluminense, Coxa were excellent and really should have won the game. They limited Fluminense to pot shots from long distance as the Rio giants struggled to break through the Coxa lines. Coritiba then broke at lightening speed causing multiple problems for Flu. New signing Colin Kazim-Richards formerly of Brighton could have won the game after coming on as a late sub but squandered his chances.

Coxa are among the best sides in the league when playing at home and that should continue here in a game I’m fully expecting them to win.
