Corinthians v Sao Paulo Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 17th July

Corinthians v Sao Paulo – Corinthians Arena at 20:00

On Sunday we have one of, if not the biggest local derby in the country to look forward to. All eyes in Brazil will be looking towards the state of Sao Paulo as Corinthians play host to Sao Paulo.

With four wins on the bounce to their name it looks like Corinthians are dealing with the loss of their manager, Tite, who has recently taken over the reigns of the national side. Without Tite, many feared that Corinthians would fade away as their manager was seen as the lynch pin to the clubs recent success and titles.

Corinthians currently sit just one point behind their local rivals Palmeiras who after 14 games sit on 29 points. It’s been an excellent season so far for clubs based in Sao Paulo, Palmeiras,Corinthians and Santos all sit inside the top four whilst Ponte Preta are having a solid season in 7th place.

Once again it seems that Corinthians are going to have the best defence in the league, they’ve only conceded ten goals in their fourteen games so far. Timao haven’t conceded a goal in over 300 minutes and you have to fancy them to nick another three points here today.

It’s been a really tough week for Sao Paulo who only got back from Colombia on Saturday morning. SP played Atletico Nacional in the Copa Libertedores in midweek, after an early goal by Jonathan Calleri the away side were given some hope of overturning the first leg 2-0 defeat but that was snatched away seven minutes later.

Sao Paulo crashed out of the Copa Libertedores midweek and as they sit in mid table at the moment they’re massively underachieving. With Alan Kardec Sao Paulo have a forward that can hold the ball up extremely well but he’s only scored three goals this campaign.

Palmeiras have a really tough tie away to Internacional where you have to feel that they’ll do well to get a result! This could give Corinthians that extra bit of motivation in which to grab the three points that will send them to the top of the table.
