Chelsea v Tottenham – Stamford Bridge at 19:45 GMT

Tottenham Hotspur will be paying a visit to Stamford Bridge on Thursday to take on Chelsea for their final showdown in the English League Cup. Chelsea have the perfect chance to prove their critics wrong as they face the Spurs in a must-win second leg match in the semi-final of the EFL Cup. Maurizio Sarri faulted his players of lacking the mindset necessary to play at the top level after their disappointing defeat to Arsenal over the weekend. Both teams are in the middle of their own crisis as of now, but which team wants Thursday’s victory more?

Chelsea’s defeat at the hands of the Gunners on Saturday opened up a spot in the top four race in the Premier League. This is also their chance to secure a victory since the Spurs are facing injury crisis at the moment. Chelsea are hoping to complete a loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain this week in order to boost their choices up front, and they are definitely in desperate need of back-ups in that area. The Blues were only able to notch just 10 times in their previous 10 fixtures in all competitions.

Tottenham, on the other hand, will be coming into Thursday’s match fresh off the back of a 1-0 victory against Chelsea over the weekend. However, Harry Kane, the person who scored the only goal during Saturday’s match, is one of the best attacking players of Tottenham who will miss Thursday’s fixture. The Spurs will also be without the assistance of Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min due to injury and international duty respectively. Despite the number of unavailable players for the Spurs, their fantastic record against Chelsea should be enough to boost their confidence ahead of their match.

LATEST NEWS

–          Dele Alli will likely be unavailable after suffering from a suspected hamstring issue.

–          Aside from Kane and Son, Fernando Llorente is also rumoured to be unavailable for Thursday’s game.

–          The Blues must close in on the loan deal for Gonzalo Higuain by 12PM on Wednesday in order for him to be eligible to play on Thursday.

–          Ruben Loftus-Cheek will remain out due to back injury.

KEY PLAYERS

Chelsea

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s source of goals this season. Aside from that, he became Chelsea’s newest centurion after scoring his 100th goal for the team in the match against Watford last month. Tottenham

Christian Eriksen is one of the best players in his position. He is one of the best creative midfielders in European football and could comfortably fit into almost any leading club’s starting eleven. MATCH PREDICTION

Chelsea v Tottenham: 1-1

London derbies are always an exciting affair and Thursday’s fixture shouldn’t be any different. A tight match should be expected especially with these two teams. Despite Tottenham facing several injury and unavailability crises, they have enough players to keep them over the line against Chelsea. The Blues shouldn’t be underestimated, though. They will most likely enter this game determined to secure the victory as well as lay claim in the top four finish in the Premier League.
