Chelsea v FC Porto Asian Handicap Preview – Wednesday 9th December

Chelsea v Porto – Stamford Bridge at 19:45 live on BT Sport 2

Chelsea welcome Porto to Stamford Bridge this evening in their last group match in the Champions League needing at least a point to guarantee a place the knock-out stage.

Porto, the club where Jose Mourinho made his name winning the UCL back in 2004, need a win if they are to qualify (assuming Kiev beat Maccabi), but have never won on English soil.

The Blues have endured one of their toughest starts to a season this term after winning the Premier League and League cup last year. They now sit in 14th place after 15 matches and face an early exit from the Champions League if they lose tonight.

They come in to the match on the back of yet another defeat, this time to newly promoted Bournemouth, losing 1-0 at the Bridge on Saturday. They have found it hard to gather any momentum this season and despite what Mourinho has said, there has to be a lot of pressure on him and his players this evening.

It hasn’t been one of Chelsea’s easiest UCL group campaigns either but they have only lost once, to Porto at the Dragao back in September. In an impressive display, Julen Lopetegui’s side ran out well deserved 2-1 winners but still need a win to secure a place in the last 16.

They lost at home to Dynamo Kiev last time out leaving them on 10 points from their 5 matches, level with Chelsea. However, due to the Dragoes weaker goal difference, they need all 3 points tonight.

Their away form in the competition is good, unbeaten in their last five, scoring at least 2 in each of those. They are also unbeaten in the Portuguese league, winning 9, drawing 3 of their 12 matches.

Porto are in good attacking form both in Europe and domestically but they haven’t faced a defence as strong as Chelsea’s, conceding just 2 goals in their last 5 matches. Under 2.5 goals even at 1.80 offers some value.

For my recommendation though, I’m on Porto +0.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market at 1.88. A draw will suit Chelsea so a tight defensive display is expected. Mourinho will focus on avoiding defeat, as they did against Spurs, which worked well for them.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Porto +0.5 at 1.88
