Chelsea v Manchester City – 8th December Saturday

Chelsea v Manchester City – Stamford Bridge at 17:30 GMT

Two Premier League giants will meet on Saturday as Chelsea take on league leaders Manchester City in the weekend’s most anticipated matchups. Maurizio Sarri will be facing his toughest Premier League test as Chelsea welcome reigning Champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in what is regarded as the most awaited tie in the Premier League.

Chelsea will be coming into this match fresh off the back of a 2-1 loss against the Wolverhampton Wanderers who looked desperately out of form. Their loss against the Wolves dropped them further into the 4th position and putting a considerable 10-point difference between them and the top of the standings. Chelsea have really seen their performances falter in recent weeks, coming out victorious in just 1 of their last 4 Premier League fixtures. They lost in a disappointing manner to both the Tottenham Hotspur and the Wolves.

Pep Guardiola will also be facing one of their biggest rivals for the Premier League title. Chelsea are still undefeated at Stamford Bridge but it’s important to consider that they haven’t encountered a side quite at the level of Manchester City yet. Man City, meanwhile, are currently sitting at the top of the league table. Pep Guardiola’s team managed to win their last seven top-flight fixtures and dropped only two points from the draw against Liverpool all throughout the season. They won 13 of their 15 league fixtures and harbour a 2-point lead over Liverpool.

Even though the Blues are fresh from their shock defeat to the Wolves on Wednesday, they have the quality to cause problems for City than most of the other sides they encountered this season.

–          Chelsea have an almost fully-fit squad with Victor Moses the only doubt due to a back problem

–          Man City’s Benjamin Mendy, Claudio Bravo and Eliaquim Mangala are unavailable for Saturday’s match due to knee and Achilles injuries.

–          Kevin De Bruyne, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Vincent Kompany are doubtful to join City’s squad as they take on Chelsea due to knee, nose and hamstring injuries.

–          Sergio Aguero missed City’s last two matches due to a muscle injury and he remains doubtful for this match.

Chelsea: 4-3-3

Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso; N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheeks; Pedro, Eden Hazard, Olivier Giroud.

Manchester City: 4-3-3

Ederson; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Fabian Delph; Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, David Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus.

Eden Hazard proved to be one of Chelsea’s most important players as shown in his performances this season. He is currently regarded as one of the Blues’ key attacking threats. With his impressive technical ability and versatility, the entire city line-back will need to be cautious with him.

Jorginho is one of the main factors behind Chelsea’s impressive start to the season. With his passing and defensive strengths, he has become one of Chelsea’s key midfielder. He was among the best players in the Serie A last season, back when he was in Napoli.

Marcos Alonso is one of Chelsea’s best players with his remarkably impressive skills as a wing-back. With his power and superb delivery, the Spaniard will be quite the threat as Chelsea take on Manchester City on Saturday.

Manchester City

Kyle Walker plays as a right-back for Man City and has been one of their key players this season. With his strength and physicality, he provides inner strength to the back-line. Aside from that, his exceptional pace and accurate crossing ability helped in City’s powerful attacking approaches.

Fernandinho has been really consistent with his stellar performance at City’s midfield this season. He operates as a formidable shield in front of the defensive line as well as seeking to get forward at every chance he gets.

Raheem Sterling continues to dominate as City’s winger and midfielder. He has been consistent with his strength and is currently enjoying his finest season yet for Manchester City. He is the Premier League’s joint leading English top scorer, with his eight goals matching Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Chelsea v Manchester City: 1-2

Even though Chelsea showed a remarkable performance especially during the start of this season, they still lack the cunningness and all-around ability levels of Manchester City. Also considering City’s incredibly good form at the moment and Chelsea’s significant dip in performance level as shown in their mixed forms in recent fixtures, a Manchester side victory seems to be the best bet here. However, Chelsea is the only team, aside from Liverpool, who could take on quite a side like City. Expect this match to be the most thrilling one yet.
