Chelsea v Man Utd – Stamford Bridge at 17:30 live on Sky Sports 1
The Barclay’s Premier League evening kick off this Saturday see’s top of the table Chelsea host in-form Man Utd at Stamford Bridge. The Blues go into the weekend with a 7 point lead over Arsenal in 2nd place and 8 above Utd in 3rd. They are as short as 1.02 to reclaim the title for the first time since the 2009/10 season.
The Red Devils are hoping to secure their 7th consecutive league win, the second longest winning streak this season, behind Arsenal, currently on 8. In what should be an entertaining, close match, is the value with the home favourties or the in-form underdogs on the Asian Handicap market?
Chelsea are yet to be beaten at the Bridge this season but have shown some weaknesses in recent matches drawing 3 of their last 5 at home. The Blues are also unbeaten in their last 11 league matches and with a game in hand over their closest rivals can extend that lead further. Mourinho’s men can go 10 points clear with a win on Saturday, with Arsenal not in league action this weekend due to their FA Cup semi final with Reading.
Man Utd will be looking to move up to second with a win tomorrow and are in ominous form, winning 6 in a row including victories over Tottenham, Liverpool and last week’s impressive win in the derby over City. Van Gaal really has got his side playing well and getting the results, whereas in the first half of the season, although results were good, performances were still fairly poor.
Utd’s improved performances have come hand in hand with the impressive displays of Carrick, Blind, Young, Fellaini and Juan Mata in particular. The ex-Chelsea player has been in fine fettel of late, netting a brace against Liverpool and scoring against City last weekend and will be keen to prove a point to Mourinho on Saturday.
LVG will be looking for Utd’s first win in 7 against Chelsea. They have only beaten the Blues once in their last 12 meetings at Stamford Bridge and are as big as 4.1 to do so this weekend.
Utd may be without Michael Carrick due to a calf injury sustained in the derby and Chelsea will be without top scorer Diego Costa. The Blues may also be missing Loic Remy but have the likes of Fabregas, Oscar and the favourtie for the PFA player of the year, Eden Hazard, who can all create and score.
I expect a low scoring tight affair, the value being with the in-form underdogs to come away with at least a point. Chelsea have nothing to worry about in terms of winning the league and will be happy with a point, so Utd with half a goal is my recommendation.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Man Utd +0.5 @ 1.91
