Chelsea v Liverpool – Stamford Bridge at 16:30
While there is plenty to play for at the bottom of the table, there’s still a lot at stake at the top. On Sunday, the fight for fourth place could be decided when Chelsea welcomes Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.
Champions League finalists
Liverpool, of course, head to Stamford Bridge as Champions League finalists. They may have lost 4-2 on Wednesday night against AS Roma, but a 7-6 win on aggregate was enough to see Jurgen Klopp’s men to the final in Kiev.
But what will the hangover be from the Reds’ triumph? They gave absolutely everything and we saw last weekend how it can impact the resulting game in the Premier League.
It will be interesting also to see what Klopp does with his selection. Will he play more second-string players, as he did against Stoke? If he does, they’ll need to step up as the Reds still have qualification for next year’s competition to fight for.
Return of Salah to Stamford Bridge
One of the stories this season has been Mohamed Salah’s unbelievable form. Many have pointed to his spell at Chelsea earlier in his career as a mistake by the Blues, and the Egyptian will no doubt dominate the headlines again come Sunday.
He scored against his former club in November and will be hoping to bag one at his old stomping ground.
Chelsea need all three points
If Chelsea is to qualify for the Champions League this season, they need to win all of their remaining three games. They are currently five points off Tottenham in fourth and a further point behind Liverpool. Antonio Conte’s men will need to turn on the style to beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and keep the hopes of a top four finish alive.
For Liverpool, it’s a case of one win from their final two games – against Chelsea and Brighton – to guarantee a top four finish.
