Chelsea v Liverpool Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 10th May

Chelsea v Liverpool – Stamford Bridge at 16:00 live on Sky Sports 1

Liverpool travel to west London this Sunday to face the newly crowned Premier League Champions and will line up for a Guard of honour for Chelsea. With the Blues already clinching the title last week defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 the Reds will be hoping they’ll take the foot off the gas and become the first team to beat them at Stamford Bridge this season.

Brendan Rodgers will be looking for his first win over his old employers and are 3.9 to do so. You can back them at 1.85 with half a goal on the Asian Handicap betting market but this doesn’t represent value for me.

Jose Mourinho’s record against Gerrard and Co. is W8 D1 L1 in his last 10 Premier League meetings with Liverpool and are a 2.1 shot to win on Sunday.

Chelsea have only dropped points at home on 3 occasions this season, each a 1-1 draw with Burnley, City and Southampton. These draws have all come since the turn of the year when Mourinho seemed to adopt a very defensive approach to games and protect the big lead they earned in the first half of the season. With the league now won, Chelsea can play a more free flowing, open, attacking game and turn on the style as they did leading up to Christmas.

Liverpool have kept 7 clean sheets in their last 9 away league matches but I can’t see them containing Chelsea this weekend. The Blues have scored at least one goal in every home match this year and still boast the leagues best defence.

The Merseysiders do still have a very outside chance to finish in the top 4 but will need to win their last 3 matches if Utd beat Palace on Saturday. They haven’t capitalised on Man Utd’s recent slump in form, picking up just 2 wins in their last 6 matches, losing 3 and drawing 1.

They only managed to nick a home win over QPR last weekend with a late winner from Gerrard and have been far from convincing in their last 6 league outings.

Despite expecting Chelsea to play more attacking football, I don’t see this being a goal fest. I can’t get involved in Under 2.5 goals though at 1.8, not enough value in that for me.

For my recommendation I’m going with the Champions to inflict more misery on Liverpool and end their distant chances of finishing in the top 4.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Chelsea -0.5 @ 2.1
