Barcelona v Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will be going into their last match of the Champions League group stages knowing that their fate is completely in their own hands. The Premier League side don’t need to worry about winning margins or notching away goals, they just need three points and they’re all set. However, the only problem is they will be facing one of their toughest tasks of winning against Barcelona at Camp Nou. The Spurs must win against the Barcas in order to better Inter Milan’s match outcome against PSBV in order to proceed to the knockout stages.

Barcelona are already in the top spot, easing a weekend win against their local rivals Espanyol in a 4-0 victory. They’re on a four-match winning streak, something they wouldn’t want to see an end in their head-to-head with the Spurs. The Catalans were able to progress to the next round, in part down to a 4-2 victory in the last face-offs between these two and that encounter saw the Barcas, particularly Lionel Messi, upped their game on the Wembley turf.

Meanwhile, the Spurs are in quite an awful form at the moment. They only managed to pick up six points from a possible 9 at their home turf, and their two away trips produced only a single point. Tottenham will be hoping their opponents will at least ease off a bit on Tuesday’s clash. However, the Barcas are no strangers to early qualifications. They won their final match in the group stages in four of their previous five Champions League campaigns.

These two sides have met on three previous encounters. Prior to their meeting at the Wembley Stadium earlier in the season which the Barcas won 4-2, their only meeting came during the semifinals of the 1982 Cup Winners’ Cup which Barcelona also bagged the 2-1 victory on aggregate.

Monaco v Dortmund

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund already secured their place in the knockout stages and they are looking forward to wrap up their Champions League campaign with a victory on Tuesday’s clash against AS Monaco. Dortmund, by this time, bagged a place in the last 16 while Monaco still can’t seem to get off the bottom of the Group A table. However, Dortmund’s setback in their previous game already cost them the top spot. They still have a chance of moving to the top of the table on the final if they manage to win against Monaco.

Although Thierry Henry may be helping Monaco improve, they still sit in the 19th place in the Ligue 1 standings. Even though they managed to come out successful at Amiens last week, their weekend game was put on hold. They continued to struggle throughout the season so far due to a huge injury list. Dortmund, on the other hand, have a 9-point lead over Bayern Munich, winning five of their last six outings. During the weekend, they were able to win past rivals Schalke in a 2-1 away victory. It should be expected that Dortmund will carry their impressive form on Tuesday’s match.

Monaco lost five of their previous seven matches so far. These two sides met each other back in October with Dortmund coming out as the 3-0 victors. Monaco currently sitting at the bottom of the standings isn’t a rarity. They have been in an awful form in Europe for a couple of years already, losing six consecutive European home fixtures. Worse, they have a disappointing record in the final game of the campaign. Dortmund lost only once this campaign—during an away trip to Atletico Madrid.

This clash is a make or break for these two teams. Who will dominate on Tuesday?

Liverpool v Napoli

The biggest game in this week’s Champions League fixtures will be at England. Napoli will be travelling to the Anfield Stadium on Tuesday to face Liverpool in their matchday six showdown in the Champions League Group C. There is certainly going to be a dramatic ending in the Group C fixtures as Liverpool and Napoli face each other with a place in the league knockout stages on the line. Liverpool must win in order to have any chance of progress in the next round.

Jurgen Klopp’s team will be looking to secure their place in the knockout stages by coming out victorious in either a 109 win or by two goals. However, even if Liverpool win, Napoli would still progress to the next round due to their greater head-to-head record in the group standings. Liverpool, on the other hand, are looking to avoid a loss in this clash. They’ve been knocked out at this stage in two of their previous three Champions League campaigns. To survive, they will need to score a couple of goals against the Italian outfit. While Napoli are aware that a draw is all they need, the Serie A side are not the kind of team who will just let their opponents slip away without a fight.

These two sides only met twice before this season. If Napoli manage to avoid a loss on Tuesday, they will reach the knockout stages for the third time in five Champions League campaigns. The Reds have a record of one clean sheet in their previous 9 European fixtures while Napoli scored in four consecutive Champions League matches. It should be expected that these two sides will both try to secure their advancement in the competition.
