Dortmund v Bayern Munich Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 14th August

Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich – Signal Iduna Park at 19.30 live on BT Sport 1

The curtain comes up on the 2016/17 Bundesliga season with a titanic collision at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday when heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich go toe-to-toe for the new campaign’s first piece of silverware, the Super Cup.

Although considered a glorified friendly by most, the match between the German giants has added spice this weekend with Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke fuelling the rivalry by claiming the Bavarians lied to Mario Gotze when signing him three years ago.

Gotze re-signed with BVB this summer after leaving the Black & Yellows in 2013 for Pep Guardiola’s Bayern, where he could not live up to expectations. And Watzke alluded to broken promises as the reason behind the World Cup winner’s lack of impact at the Allianz Arena.

The 24-year-old is one of a number of eye-catching summer arrivals at Dortmund following a rather busy off-season. Mats Hummels, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gündogan may have left, but with Götze, Andre Schürrle, Marc Bartra, Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor and Raphael Guerreiro coming in, BVB look well placed to hit the ground running.

Thomas Tuchel therefore has a number of options ahead of the new campaign as the Black & Yellows bid to wrestle back the Bundesliga crown from the record-breaking defending champions.

Bayern may not have been as active in the transfer market, but there is an air of a fresh start in Munich too, as Carlo Ancelotti begins his first season at the helm since taking over from Guardiola.

Plenty of questions are being asked of Ancelotti. For example, how might he integrate Hummels and midfield dynamo Renato Sanches? Sanches is a confirmed absentee for Sunday and will be joined by Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa, and Holger Badstuber on the sidelines.

Jerome Boateng, Xabi Alonso, and Franck Ribery also missed training sessions this week and are rated doubtful but even so, Bayern are likely to field a strong-looking XI at Signal Iduna Park with both star-studded squads eager to pick up the available silverware.

Dortmund finished 10 points behind Bayern in the Bundesliga last season but Tuchel’s keen to show his troops’ competitiveness in this Super Cup clash.

Bayern thumped their rivals 5-1 last October but three of their last four meetings have been level after 90 minutes whilst only three of the last 10 clashes have featured goals at both ends.

Chuck in the early-season nature, plus home advantage and it’s worth putting our faith in the underdogs with 1.90 available on Dortmund with a +0.25 Asian Handicap start.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Borussia Dortmund +0.25 at 1.90
