Bordeaux v Lyon Asian Handicap Preview – Friday 3rd March

Bordeaux v Lyon – Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux at 19:45 BT Sport ESPN

Branching off into France’s Ligue 1 for the first of this week’s Asian Handicap previews, as Lyon visit Bordeaux.

This is a crunch match in La Liga between the fifth place hosts Bordeaux and fourth placed visitors, Lyon.

A victory here on Friday night would put the visitor’s seven points ahead of their hosts and they have a game in hand.

The Girondins have been a little disappointing at home so far this season. With a record of W6 D4 L4 and GF15 GA16, it is their failure to win more games at home that is keeping them out of the top four.

Goals at both ends of the pitch are a problem, with an average of just 1.07 goals per game at home, they are 0.48 behind the league average.

In terms of conceding goals, their home average of 1.14 is not horrific but again it is worse than the Ligue 1 average of 1.03 per game.

However, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side are in their best form of the season at the moment. They have a recent record of W5 D2 L1 while scoring 15 and conceding just 7 times.

On top of this, excluding the top three, they have lost just once in nine games against teams in the top half of the table.

That form against their closest rivals, includes a 3-1 away win against tomorrow’s opponents Lyon.

Bruno Genesio’s team are enduring a boom or bust type of season so far this year, with only one draw in 26 matches. They either win or lose and with their best run being four wins in a row, their form has not been sustainable.

Plus, with one of the most talented squad’s in France it is a surprise to see them 13 points adrift of the Champions League qualification places.

As you would expect, this boom or bust pattern is most prevalent away from home where their record is W5 D1 L6 with GF20 and GA16.

However, at 1.67 Goals per Game on the road, they do score significantly more goals than the league average. Plus, they conceded less than average on their travels as well, at just 1.33 GPG.

Their recent overall form is still very much up and down with 4 wins and 4 defeats in the past 8 league encounters.

Although, they have scored a lot goals recently, 20 in those 8 games, all but 3 of them came when playing at home.

This current lack of goals on the road is a major concern for Genesio coming into such a key away match.

Asian Handicap Prices and Data…

With two closely matched teams the main Asian Handicap line is currently set at +/-0.25, with the home team available at 1.96 with the +0.25 handicap.

In terms of the Asian Total Goals market, I was slightly surprised to see the line up at 2.75 for this match.

As mentioned Bordeaux have struggled to score at home all season and now with Lyon not finding the net on the road as well. This looks like a potentially good opportunity to back the Unders on the Asian Total Goals market.

Neither team can afford to lose to their closest rivals in the table at this stage of the campaign, which could lead to a tight match.

With Bordeaux’s more impressive recent form and home field advantage, I am more inclined to back them with the positive quarter goal handicap.

Asian Handicap Recommendation: Under 2.75 Goals at 2.11 and Bordeaux +0.25 at 1.96
