Bologna v Empoli – Stadio Renato Dall’Ara 14:00 GMT+1

Bologna broke away from the Serie A relegation zone with a thumping 3-0 victory over Europe-chasing Sampdoria. Sinisa Mihajlovic has revitalised the Felsinei since replacing Pippo Inzaghi on the bench and the Rossoblu made it four successive victories at the Stadio Dall’Ara last weekend.

Despite having Federico Santander and Mitchell Dijks suspended, Bologna seized control of proceedings midway through the first-half, seeing a goal ruled out via VAR before a bizarre opener from a goalkeeping error. Erick Pulgar’s free-kick doubled the advantage and Riccardo Orsolini rounded off the result with a third.

Victory has moved the relegation battlers five points above the bottom-three as they continue their resurgence under Mihajlovic. The Rossoblu have appeared a more competitive and attack-minded outfit under the Serbian and Bologna’s new-look side have now returned an impressive W6-D2-L4 since Inzaghi left having won just twice in 21 previously.

Those improved results have been built around a freedom of expression in the final-third that just wasn’t there under the previous regime. The seven-times Italian champions have scored in all bar two of their 12 outings under Mihajlovic, including racking up 10 goals in their most recent four as hosts whilst firing in 33 on-target efforts.

Bologna appeal at the prices

So the Felsinei hold plenty of appeal at 1.95 quotes when Empoli arrive at the Stadio Dall’Ara on Saturday afternoon. The visitors occupy the third and final place in the bottom-three making the match-up potentially pivotal in both teams’ fight for Serie A survival this season.

If Bologna are looking upwards, Empoli are contemplating a return to the second-tier following a damaging 4-2 home defeat to Spal last time out. The Azzurri have now been beaten in 11 of their past 18 league encounters to slide from a mid-table position of promise to prime relegation candidates.

Empoli’s road record also leaves a lot to be desired. The Tuscan outfit have W0-D5-L11 in their 16 away days in 2018/19, with two of their five points earned against sides below them in the standings. Alarmingly, the visitors have leaked at least twice on 11 occasions in games as guests and may be unable to cope with a Bologna side that’s generated 1.67 xG since Mihajlovic arrived.
