Bayer Leverkusen v Schalke – Bay Arena at 19:30 live BT Sport ESPN
Over to Bundesliga for the second Asian Handicap preview of the week.
Two German football’s traditional big teams clash on Friday evening, but with both teams aiming to edge closer to safety rather than challenging for honours, the fixture has lost a little of its previous glamour.
Tayfun Korkut has not had a great start to life as Leverkusen’s head coach, having replaced Roger Schmidt in early March, the Turkish national has just one win in eight games.
This poor run sees Leverkusen just four points above the relegation places with four games remaining.
Although with four other teams involved in the battle to avoid the relegation playoff spot, it is highly unlikely they will get dragged into the mire.
Despite the bad start, there have been some encouraging results for Korkut, such as 0-0 draws with both Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Also, the three matches that they have lost were all by just a single goal, so they are proving tough to beat.
Schalke too are struggling in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table and boss Marcus Weinzierl would have been hoping for more in his first season in charge.
The famous club finished 5th last season and it somewhat of a surprise that they gave the top job to Weinzierl, who had done nothing more than reach Europa League qualification with his previous team Augsburg.
Schalke suffered a crushing exit from this season’s Europa League last week, when blowing a 2-0 lead at home against the ten men of Ajax, in extra time.
But, they recovered well with a creditable 1-1 draw when hosting, high flying Leipzig on Sunday.
Asian Handicap Prices & Data…
These teams look quite closely matched overall but the bookies have Leverkusen favourites at 2.20.
On the Asian Handicap market you can back the hosts -0.25 at 1.92 and Schalke +0.25 at 2.02.
The Asian Total Goals line is set at 2.5, where Overs can be backed at 1.85 and Unders at 2.07.
The Under 2.5 Goals price looks attractive to me, especially given Leverkusen’s decent defence and Schalke’s poor scoring form on the road.
They have just 11 in 14 away games this season, plus 76% of meetings between these two have ended with less than 3 goals.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Under 2.5 Goals at 2.07
