Atalanta v Roma – Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia at 14:00 GMT live at Eleven Sports
Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco praised the Giallorossi’s attacking approach after a 3-2 victory over Torino last weekend kept the Wolves in touch with the Champions League qualification places, but the boss also bemoaned his teams “hasty” defending after fumbling a 2-0 advantage at the Stadio Olimpico.
Di Francesco said, “Considering the first half performance, we deserved to be more than 2-0 up, but we can’t always go at 300km per hour and must learn to control the game during certain periods. Where we need to improve is in defence, as paradoxically we can be a bit too aggressive and therefore hasty, getting the timing wrong on interceptions. We need to calm it down a bit sometimes and defend as a team.”
Victory was Roma’s third on the spin, moving the Giallorossi to within a point of the top-four. The Wolves’ only reverse in seven (W4-D2-L1) came against Juventus and Di Francesco’s troops appear to have shaken off their early-season inconsistencies, however Sunday afternoon’s clash could be key.
The visitors head to Atalanta with the hosts arguably Italy’s most impressive performer outside of the league leaders since the October international break. La Dea have churned out W8-D1-L3 in that sample, playing an attractive, attacking style under their wily boss Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Bergamo boys have scored at least twice in nine of those 12 tussles, nothing 11 goals in their most recent two encounters, as well as holding Juventus to a thrilling 2-2 draw as recently as Boxing Day. The hosts have also overcome Lazio and AC Milan on home soil, whilst only going down to Napoli by a solitary strike.
Atalanta’s performance data marks Gasperini’s group out as serious candidates for a top-four finish and means this weekend’s meeting should provide plenty of entertainment and intrigue for neutrals. The best way to profit from such a contest is to support a goal-heavy game.
Over 2.75 Goals is chalked up at 1.72 and should oblige with Atalanta crossing the Over 2.5 Goals whitewash in 11 of their last 12 games, whilst Roma have seen three goals or more in six of their most recent nine Serie A matches. The duo have seen 3.35 goals-per-game on average in their combined outings.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.75 goals at 1.720
