Nigeria v Guinea

Nigeria will take on Guinea on Wednesday for their Africa Cup of Nations showdown at the Alexandria Stadium fresh off the back of a 1-0 victory in their opening match against Burundi. Nigeria will definitely be on the spotlight when they meet a Guinea side who have an eye on the glory in this competition despite entering this game off the back of a disappointing result over the weekend, an advantage Nigeria could make the most out of as they target the victory.

Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations back in 2013, which is also their last appearance in the competition. They will definitely be pushing to take the reign once again, but they will need to improve their performances much more especially as seen in their 1-0 win against Burundi. That victory hardly showed how they can be potential champions, but there’s certainly room for improvement. With their strong lineup, it should be expected for them to get better as the competition progresses.

Guinea, on the other hand, will be coming into this game from a frustrating draw against Madagascar. They have appeared frequently in the quarter-finals in this competition in recent years so it’s possible they could bounce back on Wednesday. However, Guinea aren’t really looking like they could top the group based on their performance in the opening fixture. They will need to up their game and best Nigeria in order to make it to the next round of the tournament.

Uganda v Zimbabwe

Two sides who made good impressions in the opener of the Africa Cup of Nations will meet on Wednesday. Uganda claimed a 0-2 victory against Congo DR in the opener and they will be aiming to do the same when they meet with Zimbabwe. Uganda will enter this game as the favourites though. Another victory for them would definitely guarantee them a place in the next round, but will they be able to proceed to the last 16?

Zimbabwe started their opening game in the competition with a 1-0 loss to Egypt. That loss has left them at a poor starting record, especially since they will face a Ugandan side that were able to pull off another massive result ahead of their game this Wednesday. Furthermore, Zimbabwe failed to win any of their previous three fixtures. Their qualifying campaign for this competition is also far from outstanding. They managed to bag just two wins from their final five fixtures.

Uganda, on the other hand, secured their place in the competition with a fixture to spare after claiming victory in four of their first five fixtures. Their form has definitely been budding especially in this tournament so expect them to be a side worth watching out for.  A victory for Uganda seems to be on the cards on Wednesday’s clash against Zimbabwe. Furthermore, a victory for Uganda will definitely increase their chances of advancing past the group stages and onto the next round.

Egypt v Congo

Egypt will host Congo DR as they continue their quest for glory in their Africa Cup of Nations clash on Wednesday. Egypt will enter this game as the favourites to come out as winners and they will be aiming to build on their 1-0 win against Zimbabwe during the competition opener. A lot of pressure is definitely put on Egypt since they will have to deliver a fantastic performance in front of their supporters. Can they pick up points on Wednesday and proceed to the next round?

With seven titles to their name, the hosts are definitely a side to fear in the competition. They were outstanding during their golden period between years 2006 to 2010, winning all three Africa Cup of Nations title victory. Egypt will enter this match having won four of their previous five meetings with Congo so a victory should be on the cards for the hosts.

On the other hand, a struggling Congo will definitely have a hard time putting a dent on Egypt’s hopes of securing the victory. To make things even worse for them, they started their Cup of Nations campaign with an awful 2-0 defeat in the hands of Uganda. That loss will no doubt make it difficult for them to come out on top of the group as well as progressing to the next round. Furthermore, they will face an Egyptian side who has Mo Salah included in their squad.
