Aside from that, the list also features the top-performing athletes worth watching out for this year, especially with the anticipated Australian Open commencing this January.

5. Simona Halep

Total Earnings: $7.4 million

Simona Halep climbed up the charts of the world’s highest-earning tennis stars last year. She was named as 2018’s ITF World Champion for the first time in her career. She reveled in the high of a Grand Slam success, bagging her maiden major title at Roland Garros and reaching the final at the Australian Open. She ended the year 2018 as the World No. 1 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) standings.

4. Alexander Zverev

Total Earnings: $8.5 million

The greatest highlight for Alexander Zverev’s entire career was when he defeated current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic during the last match of  the ATP Tour finals in November 2018. Zverev is now the only player in the top 10 rankings that doesn’t have a losing record against tennis’ 14-time Grand Slam champion. As of now, Alexander Zverev is at the 4th spot in the ATP rankings. He was also the one who secured the Laver Cup win for Team Europe in mid-2018.

3. Roger Federer

Total Earnings: $8.63 million

Another greatest moment for Federer last year was when he became the world’s No. 1-ranked male tennis athlete for the fifth time in his entire career even though he wasn’t able to play for two full months. He reclaimed the top spot after Rafael Nadal’s quarterfinal exit during the 2018 Madrid Open. He has been one of the greatest tennis players that ruled the tennis scene from 2004 to 2008, 2009 to 2010, 2012, and in early 2018.

2. Rafael Nadal

Total Earnings: $8.66 million

Rafael Nadal’s greatest highlight in 2018 was when he came out victorious in the French Open for the 11th time. Nadal is known for dominating a clay court competition as proven by the number of French Open titles he has in his entire career. He ended 2018 winning five trophies from the Monte Carlo Masters, Barcelona, Rome Masters, French Open, and the Canada Masters.

1. Novak Djokovic

Total Earnings: $15.9 million

Novak Djokovic dominated the top spot in the highest-earning tennis players in 2018. He has overtaken Roger Federer for total career earnings when he bagged an astounding $119 million prize money when he won in the 2018 US Open. In the 2018 season, Djokovic managed to win four trophies from the Wimbledon, the US Open, Cincinnati Masters, and the Shanghai Masters.
