Rayo Vallecano v Celta Vigo – Estadio de Vallecas at 20:00 GMT live at Eleven Sports
After winning promotion from the Spanish Segunda last season, Rayo Vallecano will now be looking to avoid immediate relegation. They currently occupy one of the relegation spots, but a good run of form of late has seen them slowly catch-up with some of their relegation rivals.
It’s just two wins in eight for Celta Vigo (W2-D1-L5) and another mid-table finish looks likely for Miguel Cardoso’s side. You have to wonder where they’d be without the clinical Iago Aspas, who has continued to bang in the goals this campaign.
Rayo Vallecano climbing out of trouble
Vallecano decent run of form has seen them lose just one of their last five games (W4-D1-L0). It’s won them 10/15 points but still leaves them in the relegation zone. However, they’re just three points from safety and a win here could claw them out of the drop zone.
On-loan Real Madrid forward Raul De Tomas in the key man for Rayo and, despite only scoring four goals in 10 games this season, the Spaniard was in hot form in the Segunda last campaign, bagging 24 goals. He’ll have to be on the top of his game if his side are to continue their good form of late.
They’ve seen three or more goals in all but two of their home games this season and seen Over 2.5 goals land in 10/18 (56%) of their La Liga games – home and away. They’ve had a 1-4, a 1-5 and a 2-3 at their atmospheric Vallecas stadium this season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another high-scoring affair here.
Playing away is no problem for Vigo
Just like Vallecano, Vigo tend to see a fair few goals in their games. Over 1.5 Goals has landed in every one of their away games so far, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in 6/8 (75%) of matches away. They’ve scored 13 goals in their nine away games, showing that they certainly don’t get goal-shy on the road.
As previously mentioned, Aspas has been continuously banging in the goals for Celta this season, with the former Liverpool striker scoring 10 goals in 17 games. The Celticos also have Maxi Gomez, who has eight goals in 13 games this campaign, and that partnership could be key in them clawing their way back up the table.
I fancy Over 2.5 Goals here, with Vallecano and Vigo both being far from astute in the defensive department and both possessing a striker that can find the back of the net. This would mean that we’d need at least three goals in this game to secure a winner, something I’m pretty confident will happen.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 goals at 1.800
