The following week, he made his league debut in a 3-2 victory over Derby County in the championship tournament. He went on to make 24 appearances during his first season, which included 18 starts, both as right-back, and in his preferred position as centre-back.

Gomez represented England at the under-16, under-17, and under-19 levels. He was one of the key players of the English national team who helped secure the victory during the 2014 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Under-17 Championship, playing every minute of England’s five matches. He was also named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament.

In 2015, the young defender was called up to join England’s Under-21 squad. He was announced as England U21’s captain in 2017. As of now, he plays as a Defender for both Liverpool and the English national team.

In the 2017-18 season, Gomez made his European debut in a 4-2 win against Hoffenheim in the UEFA Champions League play-offs. In 2018, Gomez suffered an ankle injury and had to go through surgery, missing the last fixtures of the season including the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.
