Leganes v Huesca – Estadio Municipal de Butarque at 12:00 GMT live at Eleven Sports
Leganes are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone right now, just three points above the bottom three. After going the first five games without a win, they’ve had an upturn in form of late and will be hoping for an important three points on Saturday.
Huesca, however, are rock-bottom of the La Liga table and are six points from safety. They secured a huge win against Real Betis in their last game, but they’ll have to build on that if they are to avoid immediate relegation back to the second tier.
The hosts upturn in form
Former Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino is now in charge of Leganes after being appointed in the summer, with the intention of building on two consecutive 17th-placed finishes.
As I mentioned, Los Pepineros were pointless after their opening five La Liga games, but have recently started picking up some valuable points. They’ve lost just one of their last eight games (W2-D5-L1), along with winning 12/18 points available in their previous six matches in the league – including a draw with Atletico Madrid and a win over Barcelona.
This game is sandwiched between a two-legged Copa Del Rey tie over Real Madrid but will still have a few days recovery before this game against Huesca. Leganes knocked Madrid out of the Copa Del Rey last season, so another positive result on Wednesday could well provide momentum ahead of their league clash on Saturday.
Huesca’s poor form continue
Los Oscenses have lost their last eight away games in La Liga, conceding 19 goals in the process. They’ve also won just one of their last 17 leagues matches – a 2-1 win over Real Betis in their last game. Betis dominated possession in that game and two goals in six minutes secured the win for Francisco’s side.
Huesca are still without the experienced Luisinho due to injury and their main goal threat, on-loan Watford forward Juan Camilo Hernandez, has just two goals in his last 15 games. It’s not looking rosy for them at the moment and, despite needing three points here, I can see them succumbing to an away defeat once again.
I was tempted to stick my neck out and go with Leganes -0.75, but I’m happy to take the 1.97 offered on -0.5 due to Leganes’ cup game the week before and, also, four of Huesca’s last five defeats have been by just the solitary goal.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Leganes -0.50 at 1.970
